Residents of Howe Island now have the choice of the VON S.M.A.R.T. programme or the regular Howe Island Fitness Club sessions to keep healthy and in shape.
Beginning on Monday October 22nd, the V.O.N. will be offering their S.M.A.R.T. programme on Monday Mornings at 9:30 a.m. at the Parish Hall. Assistance with transportation can be provided. This programme provides safe, gentle exercises for both men and women 55+ who wish to improve their fitness and have fun. The instructors are certified by the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging.
The Howe Island Fitness Club offers fitness sessions for women on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:15 p.m. at the Parish Hall. This is an active “come when you can” programme using a variety of exercise options, including low impact aerobics, fitball and resistance bands. Occasional guest instructors provide additional variety: yoga, belly dancing, tai chi etc.
Residents are encouraged to come out and give these programmes a try! The cost is minimal. The emphasis is on improving fitness while having fun.
