On behalf of your Howe Island Ratepayers Association, welcome to HIRA

As a community association, our mission is to build a community by sharing information, promoting activities and fostering civic involvement, all with a view to the preservation and improvement of the Howe Island quality of life and quality of public services.  HIRA supports the orderly and sustainable development of Howe Island in a manner to preserve and enhance the value and lifestyle of the residential, rural and agricultural aspects of Howe Island. HIRA currently represents 115 households on Howe Island, approximately 40 % of the population.

The Howe Island Ratepayers Association is incorporated as a non-profit organization. It is a community association run by volunteers. Some of the community activities HIRA undertakes include an annual pancake breakfast, road side pickup / cleanup campaign, yearly speaker on topics of community interest, monitoring and reporting on Township Council meetings, and maintaining a web site and email membership list. All members receive a HIRA news brief via email outlining information of interest to Howe Islanders at the completion of each Township Council meeting.

As a member of the HIRA Community Association, you would be a vital part of a collective community voice on important issues impacting Howe Island. Through HIRA, our elected representatives are made aware of issues and concerns affecting our membership.
