Howe Island Ratepayers Association Ferry Operations Chair Jim Mills along with President Austin Page read the recently completed HIRA Ferry Committee Report at the township council meeting Monday night, August 14th. The report was well received and Council complimented HIRA on the time invested and promised to look into the concerns raised in the report. You can read the report by clicking on the link below. We expect further reaction from Council at the September meeting.
A public meeting will be held concerning a proposed zoning change to allow operations to continue at a west island quarry. The meeting will be held at the municipal office on Howe Island Monday, August 14th at 630 pm at which time comments regarding the zoning change will be heard. The meeting will be preceded by a public information session to get more background information about the quarry at 3 pm. The public is invited to learn more about the proposed plans for the quarry and to comment before a final decision is made by the town council and the Ministry of Natural Resources. According to Faye Muller, HIRA Communications Director, The Howe Island Ratepayers Association has taken no position on this issue and would only do so should serious issues be raised at the meeting requiring HIRA attention.
