HIRA will continue to provide these synopses of the Township Council meetings for posting on our site. Attached is the agenda that was provided for the July council meeting.
Overall, the wind plant construction and by-laws took most of the time. Bottom line, council is dealing with construction issues on a small island…dust, noise, speeding trucks, the number of vehicles on the roads, barges, canteen truck(s), long and large trucks unable to turn corners, staging areas. Council is now dealing with a myriad of construction supervisors, subcontractors, changes to the plan by the proponent, a cement manufacturer, quarry and construction hours of operation (Item 9 was a great presentation by the Wallace family that, amongst other items, dealt with trying to confine all aspects of construction, including the quarry, from 7:00am to 7:00pm).
Item 15, the transfer of Treasury functions to the County of Frontenac is of interest to Howe Islanders. The treasurer left a few weeks ago and many of you might have seen the notice for a replacement on our two bulletin boards. It was decided that all financial transactions on Wolfe, Howe and Simcoe would be handled by the County effective immediately; therefore, eliminating the treasury function. Of course, there will be a transitional plan prior to its implementation. A contract with the County must be negotiated that would include the operational procedures along with the cost. Also, the formula to allocate costs to each island must be determined.
Item 20, Communications and the letter from Bill and Barb Roberts…a thank you HIFR for their response and actions to their recent calls.
The meeting ended at 10:30. The next meeting is on Howe on August 11 at 6:30.
