Howe Island Residents – your Howe Island Ratepayers association is informing you about this important meeting regarding ferry service and the linked letters. HIRA does not take sides in these matters but we do inform everyone about the issues and about important meetings taking place that will impact Howe Island ferry service.
Following the County’s decision to lift the limited rush hour restrictions on heavy farm and heavy farm-related vehicles, groups of islanders, who feel the decision was made in error, have engaged two lawyers both recognized leaders in their field, to challenge the decision made by the County. The linked lawyers’ letters are self-explanatory.
Bill Robertson and George Thomson will address County Council on Wednesday, December 21, 9:30 am with their presentation being based on the following: The Craig Letter; The Farming and Food Production and Protection Act; The County’s Response to the Craig Letter; Absence of an Applicable Bylaw; Lifting the Restrictions-Process; Balancing of Interests on Howe Island. Council’s meeting is being held in the Kingston Frontenac Rotary Auditorium, 2069 Battersea Road.
