On Saturday evening, July 17th, 2010, The Howe Island Garden Buds celebrated their 10th Anniversary. The party was held at the home of Noreen and Gordon MacDougall on Bryne Point. Fifty-seven people attended, including Bud members, their spouses (nicknamed the ‘Budweisers!), a few Bud houseguests and former members who have left the Island, but returned for the party, making it a great ‘Reunion’ event.
Laurel-Anne Wallace, current President, poetically paid tribute to the six former Presidents, and they were applauded by all for the contribution each has made to the club and to Howe Island. The six Past-Presidents are: Judy Hyre, who founded the Garden Buds; Wendy Brum; Beth Clark; Shirley Burgess; Pat Ecclestone; and Dorothy Higgs.
The evening began with lightening, thunder and driving rain, but cleared up in time for the delicious supper to be eaten outside, and finished with a wonderful slide show created by Dorothy Higgs. The slides depicted the Buds working on their garden projects around the Island, often assisted by their Budweiser mates, and enjoying themselves at various parties and meetings.
Congratulations to the Howe Island Garden Buds for their 10 years of gardening work on behalf of Howe Island and for the many ways in which they have enhanced the beauty and the enjoyment of our island.
Please note that any resident of Howe Island is WELCOME to join the Howe Island Garden Buds. There is no admission fee; the only requirements to join are to be prepared to join one or two working parties per year to maintain our garden projects, and to host or assist the host with one of the monthly meetings. If anyone is interested, just contact any Bud member you know and ask to come as a guest. Alternatively, call the current President, Laurel-Anne Wallace at 613 549-6210.
