NEWS ALERT: Frontenac Howe Islander out of water inspection – Quinte Loyalist Ferry to replace vessel
The following message was received from Paul Charbonneau, Director of Emergency and Transportation Services/Chief of Paramedic Services, Frontenac County. HIRA will continue its efforts to determine when the Howe Islander will be out of service and the load restrictions on the Quinte Loyalist.
Terry Botten, Chair
“I have confirmation from MTO that, although a date has not been set, when the Frontenac Howe Islander is removed from service for its four (4) year hull inspection (dry docking) the current plan is to replace the vessel with the Quinte Loyalist to avoid any emergency services and traffic disruption. MTO does advise though there is a slight risk that declining water levels may not allow enough depth to allow for the increased draft of the Quinte Loyalist and depending on the outcome of the navel architect work, which is expected soon, there may be a load restriction on the temporary set up.”
