HIRA Briefing Note-June 15, 2020
PLEASE NOTE: In light of ongoing COVID-19 issues and uncertainties, HIRA regrettably has decided to cancel for this year the HIRA Pancake Breakfast.
This is a briefing note to HIRA members and others on the Township of Frontenac Islands Council Meeting held on Monday, June 8, 2020 at the Howe Island Fire hall as the Township Office is undergoing some renovations.|. The meeting was held virtually for some Councilors and the public was provided with a call in number for listening to the proceedings. One of our directors called into the meeting. Only matters of particular reference to Howe Island are highlighted here.
Garbage Collection—–The bag tags should be available in the third week of June with a start date for picking up bags with tags being in late July or early August. This start date is a change from a previously announced start of early September.
Roads—–North Shore Road construction from Howe Island drive to east of the Boat Yard will consist of ditching, culvert replacement, granular (gravel) road base and calcium chloride and will be “ongoing”. Surface treatment will be done in 2021. Quinn’s Hill/Gibson Curve culvert replacement is listed in the Report of the PWM as “ongoing”. North Shore Road Byrne Point guardrail deferred to the 2021 budget. Spithead surface treatment deferred to the 2021 budget.
Small Ferry Dock—–The rehabilitation of the small ferry dock is in the design stage with an engineering company and is “ongoing”.
Trailers—-A new By Law regulating trailers on the Island was passed. Log on to frontenacislands.ca and go to ‘agendas’ for 2020 to see a copy of the By Law.
Howe Island Trail—-The placement of maintenance stone on the trail has been completed.
Roadside Mowing—-Mowing is scheduled to start on July 6, 2020.
