This 16th of July is the 219th anniversary of the proclamation by John Graves Simcoe, Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada, that our island be named Howe Island in recognition of General William Howe and his contribution to the North American theatre of war in the late 1700s.
The Council of the Township of Frontenac Island unanimously approved 16 July Howe Island Proclamation Day.
All Howe Islanders are invited to celebrate Proclamation Day!
