HIRA RECAP OF FEBRUARY 8 TOWNSHIP COUNCIL MEETING
Item 5: A presentation by the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority(CRCA) re: the "Drinking Water Source Protection Plan"... The CRCA has been charged by the province (which is funding the study) to develop a plan pursuant to the Clean Water Act with respect to primarily Kingston's water supply. The presentation was made to Frontenac Islands as a small part of Garden Island falls within the area that Kingston draws its water. At this time the study is only looking at municipal water supplies not private wells nor discharges. It is suggested that when the study is completed the plan will be similar to an Official Plan ie will provide controls over development or actions that may take place within the defined area that drinking water is drawn. There is a question as to how much teeth the study will have based on the findings and then the funding available to the municipalities. Web site for more information: http://www.clearwatercataraqui.ca Item 6: Deferred until April meeting Item 7: Price of an unopened road allowance partially underwater and land locked $44,000 plus costs Item 13: $41,000 for county administration accounting services Item 14 Land O'Lakes Tourism Association request for funding: deferred pending a review with the Wolfe Island Tourist Association. Both Matt and Pat do not support as they see no benefit to Howe Other Business: Hatian relief: Township will send $200 to Canadian Red Cross Township Ferry: The mayor raised a point re: funding of the Township ferry. The Township is fully-funding the ferry for the 3 winter months; however, the fares are not being retained by the Township. Carol is in discussions with the County on this matter. TOWNSHIP COUNCIL MINUTES OF JANUARY 11 AND HIRA COMMENTS
In future, we will post the minutes from the monthly Township meetings and add comments if applicable. If you have any comments, please contact terrybotten@hotmail.com. Please note Resolution #13 on the attached. Not included but raised by Matt was the clean up of the 'Howe Island Used Car Lot and Trailer Park'. You might have noticed three cars and a trailer in the Township parking lot at the County ferry dock that have been there for some time and with one/all vehicles for sale. Carol, Matt and Pat didn't know who owned the vehicles but will seek the owners and have them removed. There have been complaints that it is unsightly with these vehicles there particularly since the intended use is for temporary, short-term parking only.
